The Walled Garden Project: Horticulture & Rural Studies Centre

Information for Students and Parents

If you or your child has an interest in outdoor, practical activities in preference to formal classroom studies then you may well be interested in the work at the Walled Garden Project.
We are qualified teachers with a great deal of experience in teaching but where we differ from schools and colleges is that we operate in a more work-based, practical way. We call you by your first name or nick name if you prefer and you can call us by our first names too.

We agree what we want to get out of our partnership and work together to achieve those goals. There may well be a certain amount of written work to do but this is only to produce a portfolio of evidence, to show to either awarding bodies (if you are working on a certificated course) or to act as a record of your activities for your own personal achievements.

Example of a healthy meal to bring to the Walled Garden ProjectWhat you will need to bring with you…

  • Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Lots of layers of clothing on cold days!
  • A good hat to keep your head warm and dry.
  • A healthy snack and drink for your break times and a packed lunch. Please don’t bring glass bottles and steer clear of those nasty E-numbers.

The Walled Garden Project will supply you with protective clothing which includes steel toe capped wellington boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, fleeces and overalls if required and protective gardening gloves.

We will also provide you with a hard hat when doing certain woodland tasks and goggles when needed.

So what are you waiting for?
You can either contact us directly or get in touch with you local Connexions. If you are still in full time (or even part time) education you need to talk to your teachers and point them in the direction of this web site.

We hope you have found this information helpful. We very much look forward to hearing from you.
